The Black Bears struggled to keep Kitsap at bay Friday night at Story Field, as they lost 9-3.
Kitsap put the first two runs on the board in the top of the first and an additional two in the top of the second for the 4-0 lead.
Kitsap stumped the Bears in the top of the fifth with an additional four runs for the 8-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth.
The Black Bears struggled to put together anything offensively early, sending only one batter over the minimum fo rthe first four innings, and not getting their first hit until the fifth. In the fifth, a Seaver Whalen single to first base to drove in Jonathan Serven for the Black Bears' first run. Cowlitz added an additional run in the sixth on a double to center field by Caleb Hamilton to bring home Taylor Bryant, making the score 8-2.
The Black Bears had bases loaded in both the eigth and ninth, but managed only one additional run -- on a Derrick Rustich hit by pitch to score Nick Funyak -- to make the final 9-3 score.
Starting pitcher Reza Aleaziz took the loss after pitching one and two-third innings, allowing two hits and four runs.
The home version of the back-to-back series with Kitsap ends Saturday night with a first pitch start time at 6:35. Saturday night is Wilco Kids Farm Scramble Night where all kids 14 and under are invited on the filed after the game to jump in a pile of straw that contains hundreds of dollars in change—kids will keep what they pull out in the scramble! Saturday night is also Aaron's Super Saturday.
