The Black Bears beat the Portlond Lobos, 13-5, on Sunday evening in a non-League game sandwiched between two divisional series against the Kitsap BlueJackets.
The Lobos started quickly, taking a 3-0 lead in the first off of Black Bears starter Grant Gamble. The Black Bears answered quickly, with their own three runs in the bottom of the first, highlighted by Trevor Lane leadoff double, and an RBI single by Caleb Hamilton.
After the Lobos put an additional run on the board in the top of the second, a Joey Greco sacrifice fly scored Elliott Cary to tie the game once again at 4-4 after three.
The Bears took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run home run by Chris Iriart over the right center field fence, and added an run in the fifth with Brennan Salgado putout that scored Cary to make the score 7-4 heading into the sixth.
With the outcome still in question after a Lobo run made the score 7-5 in the seventh, the The Black Bears' offense removed the doubt with five runs on five hits -- Cary, Lane, Daniel Orr, Corey VanDomelen and Scott Serigstad contributing.
Relief pitcher Kohl Hostert took the win, going five innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out five.
