The West Coast League announced its 2015 All-League Team today, and four Black Bears received recognition. For a full copy of the League's release, click here.
Closer Lars Rider was named to the WCL First Team, coming off of a season in which he was the dominant closer in the League. Rider recorded a League record 14 saves, posting a 0.98 ERA in 18 appearances. He was selected to the WCL All Star game, and pitched a scoreless eighth inning in the South’s 3-0 shutout victory.
Pitchers Chris Castellanos (Stanford) and Joe Balfour (San Jose State) received Second Team honors as starting pitchers. Castellanos went 5-1 in his second season as a Black Bear. He posted a 2.54 ERA on the season, and was chosen WCL Pitcher of the Week following his one-hit gem to close the season against Kitsap. Balfour, also in his second year with the Black Bears, finished 4-1 and posted a stingy 2.02 ERA in seven starts. His highlights included earning the win in a 1-0 Black Bears victory against the defending champion Bellingham Bells.
First baseman Lorin Archibald (LCC) was named Honorable Mention. The power hitting Archibald hit .264 on the year and set a team record for home runs. He was consistently among the league leaders in RBI, and was selected to the All Star Game, notching a hit and scoring the first run for the South.
