Trio of Red Devils sign with Cowlitz

The Cowlitz Black Bears announced the signings of a trio of Lower Columbia College Red Devils: Yancy Bird (Fr., P), Kyle Sandstrom (So., OF)  and Zach Threlfall (Fr., C).
As you may recall, Bird pitched for the Black Bears last season. A Kelso native, Yancy went 2-1 with a 3.73 era in six appearances. Bird pitches in the upper-80’s with a good slider and change-up. His ¾ arm slot allows him to be deceptive. “It’s nice to get an arm like that back, he only gets better the longer he pitches”, Coach Grady Tweit said. 
Kyle also played for the Black Bears last summer. His outfield range is a plus in a league that has so many hitters who can drive the ball gap to gap. Last season as a 10-Day contract player Sandstrom hit .500 in his plate appearances for the Black Bears. “Kyle plays the game hard and his ability to handle the bat, makes him a great run creator for us”, Coach Tweit said. 
Zach, also a Kelso native, is a catcher with a really good bat. You may remember Zach, he was our High School Home Run Derby Champion we hosted in 2016. GM Jim Appleby says, “Threlfall is a great addition to the team. He will add much needed depth in our catching rotation and brings a bat we can use in multiple situations”.
