The sold out crowd of 1,416 watched as post-game fireworks illuminated the sky from Story Field on Wednesday night. On the field, the Black Bears provided their own spark, with their fourth consecutive night of double digit hits en route to a 6-1 win over the Kelowna Falcons
Dominic Mazza (Nevada) threw seven strong innings for his first win of the season, striking out seven Falcons while allowing just one run on two hits. Coley Bruns (Grand Canyon University) did not allow a hit in his two innings of work to wrap up the victory for the Black Bears.
Cowlitz opened the scoing early with four second inning runs. Ryan Aguilar (Santa Ana) extended his streak of reaching base safely to 19 games, leading off the inning with a single. After singles by Devon Gradford (UC Santa Barbara) and Paul Martinez (Oregon State) loaded the bases, Corey Vandomelen (Linfield) cashed two runs in with the home team's fourth hit of the inning. Following a steal by VanDomelen, a double off the bat of Kyle Knigge (LC State) drove in Martinez and VanDomelen.
The Black Bears added two insurance runs in a seventh inning that included the second hit of the night for each of Van Domelen, Knigge and Aguilar.
With a 2-for-4 night, Devyn Bolasky (UC Riverside) has gotten at least one hit in each of his seven games with the Black Bears. Bolasky is now batting .517.
The Black Bears will go for the sweep against the Kelowna Falcons, on a special Military Appreciation day game special from Story Field, with first pitch scheduled for . Michael Sullivan (0-1) will take the mound for Cowlitz, opposite Michael Frericks (0-2) and Kelowna.
