Bells Walk Off Against Black Bears

With the scored tied at 1-1, Bellingham's Reuben Ybarra led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a walk-off home run off of Billy Sahlinger (U of Portland) to secure the 2-1 victory for the Bellingham Bells (14-11) over the Cowlitz Black Bears (12-11), Saturday night from Joe Martin Field.

It was the second straight night Cowlitz was unable to come out on top despite outhitting the Bells, this time seven to four.

Although neither starting pitcher factored into the decision, both were on top of their games. Trent Paddon (Oregon) allowed one run in his six innings of work on two his, while striking out five Bells. Luke Morril matched him step by step however, allowing one run in seven innings, with seven K's.

After a run came across for the Bells in the bottom half of the sixth inning, the Black Bears were quick to match. Devyn Bolasky (UC Riverside) extended his hitting streak to ten games with a leadoff double to start the seventh inning. A wild pitch advanced him to third base, and an RBI single by Danny Recio (UC San Diego) tied the game at 1-1.

Ryan Aguilar (Santa Ana) went 2-for-4 with a stolen base to extend his streak of reaching base safely to 21 games.

The Black Bears will wrap up their three game series with the Bells Sunday with first pitch scheduled or 3:05.
