Game Story. Longview, WA. July 20, 2013 For the second straight night, the Bend Elks (23-14) pitching staff excelled, limiting the Black Bears (18-18) to just two hits, and the Elks made the most of their offensive opportunities to come away with a 5-2 win.
The Elks scored two runs in the fourth inning courtesy of a Seth Spivy home run, and added two more in the fourth and one in the sixth. Spivey's 3 hits led Bend's ten-hit attack.
Cowlitz had chances throughout the evening, primarily coutesy of eight walks were issued by Elks pitchers. In the home half of the sixth inning, back-to-back walks and an error loaded the bases, and a walk to Danny Recio walked to force home Slate Miller. Ryan Aguilar later scored on a wild pitch, bringing the game to 5-2.
All-Star selection Zach Wilkins took the loss, going seven innings and allowing the four earned runs on eight hits.
West Coast League batting leader Devyn Bolasky was responsible for both hits in the game for Cowlitz.
The Black Bears will send Dominic Mazza (3-1, 3.29 ERA) to the mound, looking to salvage a game in the final game of the series. Mazza has won his last three starts. Martin Brown (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will make his first start of the season for the Elks with first pitch scheduled for 5:05.
