Press Release. Longview, WA. July 23, 2013. Black Bears outfielder Kyle Knigge was named Most Valuable Player of the 2013 West Coast League All-Star Game in Victoria, B.C. Knigge's 2-3 performance, with a double, 2 RBI and a run scored, led the South to a 7-5 victory over the North in front of an All Star Game and single game record crowd of 4,210 at Royal Athletic Park.
Knigge had a hand in the South's first three runs of the evening. His RBI single in the top of the first scored Corvallis catcher Dane Lund, and a double in the third inning plated Bend's Chase Fields. Later in the third, Knigge scored on a single by Bend's Derek Dixon, giving the South a 3-2 lead.
Cowlitz pitcher Zach Wilkins also starred for the South, pitching a scoreless 7th inning.
Klamath Falls' Cody Hough, the league's leader in home runs, won the Home Run Derby.
The Black Bears return to regular season action on Wednesday evening at Story Field, opening a three game series against the North Division leading Walla Walla Sweets. First pitch is schedued for 6:35 p.m.
