Game Story. Medford, OR. July 29, 2013. The Black Bears' first ever trip to Harry & David Field did not work out in their favor, as the Medford Rogues (23-22) defeated Cowlitz (20-22)night 5-2 to complete the sweep.
Under gloomy conditions due to local fires, the Black Bears began the night with a hot start. Back-to-back walks to Kyle Knigge and Corey VanDomelen, followed by a groundout and an error, gave the Black Bears an early 2-0 lead despite not getting a hit in the inning.
However, the Rogues however scored a pair of their own to tie things up in the bottom of the inning against Stuart Fewel. The 6'5" right-hander, who was a fixture in the Black Bears rotation during the 2011 season, made his first appearance for Cowlitz this season
Henry Omana took over in relief in the fifth inning. Omana surrendered an RBI single to Jared Casper bringing home Parker Miles for the Rogues fifth run. Miles scored three of the five runs for Medford. Omana kept it close while working the final four innings, allowing one run on two hits, striking out five.
The Black Bears were held to three hits on the eveinig, a pair of singles by Kyle Knigge and a double to Paul Martinez.
The Black Bears will begin a three game series with the Bend Elks cowlitzblackbears.com.night, who are currently in position to make the playoffs out of the South division.
