In the final game of the Black Bears opening home stand, the Medford Rogues got their first victory of the season over Cowlitz, 5-2, from Story Field on Sunday night.
The Rogues rallied in the second inning scoring three runs all with against Cowlitz starter Jake Corn, who will be headed to Oregon in the fall to begin his collegiate career.
The Black Bears' leadoff man, Ryan Aguilar (Santa Ana), continuee his hot start with a two-out single in the third inning, later coming around to score to get Cowlitz on the board.
After Corn exited the game, Joe Balfour (Saint Martins University) and Jake Dahlberg (Illinois-Chicago) combined for six scoreless innings to keep the Bears within striking distance heading to the ninth.
Medford managed to tack on two more runs in the top half of the ninth and the Black Bears were unable to collaborate for their third straight walk off win.
The Black Bears will now hit the road heading North of the border to begin a six game road trip. Game one will be Tuesday night from Victoria against the HarbourCats. Starting pitchers have yet to be determined.
