The Black Bears returned home in a big way on Monday night, showcasing a potent offensive and stingy defensive in a 25-0 victory over the Portland Dukes.
It began in the bottom of the first when the Black Bears scored two runs off of a double by Daniel Orr (Corban), to bring in Ryan Aguilar (U of Arizona) and Kyle Hunt (Nevada) . Orr subsequently scoreed on a single by Jonathan Serven (Long Beach St.) for the 3-0 lead at the end of the first.
The scoring continued, and gave a glimpse of the remainder of the evening, as Cowlitz added six in the third. After a pair of runs scored on a wild pitch, a Caleb Hamilton (Oregon St.) hit drove in Orr, and a single by Brennan Salgado (Cal Poly Pomona) to bring Serven and Hamilton home for a 9-0 lead at the end of the third.
The floodgates opened, with the Black Bears tacking on sixteen more runs, including a home runs by Chris Iriart (U. of Houston) and Salgado for a final score of 25-0 against the Dukes. It was the first game as a Black Bear for both Hamilton and Salgado, as the Black Bears pounded out 21 total hits.
Over the nine innings, 7 Black Bears pitchers allowed no runs and only 4 hits. Reza Aleaziz (Oregon St.), J.J. Franklin (Cal Poly Pamona), Jake Menzhuber (Cal Poly Pamona) and Scott Serigstad (Grand Canyon University) made their pitching debuts for the Black Bears.
