For the second night in a row, a ninth inning Black Bear rally ended with the tying run on third base, as Cowlitz fell, 7-6, in the final game of the road series at Medford.
The Rogues got on the board first, taking a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second..
The Black Bears answered in the top of the fourth, starting with a double by Daniel Orr (Corban) that brought home Chris Iriart (University of Houston) and Caleb Hamilton (Oregon State). A single by Casey Worden (Saddleback CC) allowed Orr to tie the score at 3-3.
The Rogues scored four runs in the middle innings and were nursing 7-3 lead heading into the ninth, when Cowlitz once again made things interesting. Orr and Worden started the inning with back to back singles. After both advanced on a wild pitch, a Derek Rustich (UC Santa Barbara) groundout scored Orr. Seaver Whalen (Lower Columbia) reached on an error, scoring Worden and making the score 7-5, and Taylor Bryant (CS Fullerton) walked to put the tying run on first base. Brennan Salgado (Cal Poly Pomona) promptly doubled to score Whalen and move both the tying and winning runs into scoring position. The rally would end there, however, giving the Rogues the 7-6 win and the series sweep.
Starting pitcher Kohl Hostert (Oregon) took the loss, evening his record at 1-1. Reza Aleaziz (Oregon State) relieved Hostert in the fourth, and Scott Sergistad (Grand Canyon) followed in the seventh, retiring all six Rogues that he faced, striking out two.
