Bats Alive in 13-2 Win

The Black Bears offense took long strides Tuesday night at Story Field against the Portland Stars, taking the game 13-2.

The Stars put the first run on the board in the top of the fourth off of a single to left field for the 1-0 lead. The Bears wasted no time responding in the bottom of the fourth, the first run thanks to a Caleb Hamilton (Oregon St.) single to left field to drive home Chris Iriart (U. of Houston) to tie the game 1-1. Additional two-RBI singles by Austin Baker (Arkansas St.) and Daniel Orr (Corban) extended the lead to 5-1, and gave the Black Bears a lead they would not relinquish.

The Bears added five more runs in the fifth on RBI singles by Corey VanDomelen (Linfield), Baker,  Seaver Whalen (Lower Columbia College) and Kort Peterson (UCLA).  The final run of the inning was scored when Casey Worden (Saddleback) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

The Black Bears scored three additional runs on RBI by Jake Dahlberg (Illinois-Chicago), Brennen Salgado (Cal Poly Pomona) and VanDomelen.

The Stars put an additional run on the board in the top of the eighth.

Multiple Black Bears players posted exceptional numbers.  Hamilton led the way with four hits, three runs and one RBI.  Baker and VanDomelen each went three for five, with three collective runs and five RBIs. Starting pitcher Sam Moreland (George Fox) took the win, allowing only four hits and one run while striking out five.
