A late inning rally for the Bellingham Bells (18-5) once again proved to be to much for the Black Bears (11-13) to overcome, as Bellingham defeated Cowlitz 3-1 to complete the sweep from Joe Martin Field on Saturday night.
For the third straight game, the Bells scored the first run of the game in the fifth inning, taking a 1-0 lead on the Bears and starter Zebastian Valenzuela. The southpaw from Grand Canyon completed five strong innings, allowing the one run on five hits and one walk while striking out a season hign seven.
Bellingham starter Gabe Cramer continued the trend of dominant pitching for the Bells with six scoreless frames, also striking out seven.
The Black Bears were held to just one run for the third straight game, this time on an RBI single from Chris Iriart to score Taylor Bryant who led off the eighth inning with a walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch and later to third on a groundout.
The Bells quickly recaptured the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth.
David Bigelow closed things out for the Bellingham with a 1-2-3 ninth for his fourth save of the season.
Billy Sahlinger (3-0, 2.71) will look to end the losing streak for the Black Bears as they begin a three game series against the Walla Walla Sweet Sunday night from Borleske Stadium.
