Black Bears Win in 11, 7-4

The Cowlitz Black Bears played their third extra inning game in four days on Saturday night from Paul Thomas Sr. Field, capitalizing on two Wenatchee errors to score three runs in the in the 11th inning, evening up the series with a 7-4 victory.

The AppleSox (25-22) fell to two games behind the Bend Elks in the wildcard while the Black Bears (22-25) remained five games back with seven games remaining.

Kort Peterson led off the game with a base hit later came home on a wild pitch to give the Black Bears an early 1-0 lead.

After the AppleSox had tied the game with a run of their own, Daniel Orr crushed a two-run home over the left field wall to give the Black Bears a 3-1 lead that would stand until the sixth inning.

Sam Brown led off the inning with a walk and came home on a double by Ty Jackson against Black Bears starter Reza Aleaziz to bring with AppleSox within one.   After J.J. Franklin came on in relief, Jackson scored on a wild pitch, and an RBI single by Nick Brooks gave Wenatchee the lead for the first time in the game at 4-3.

Peterson came through with two outs in the eighth inning with a single to score Jonathan Serven to tie the score at 4-4.

The game remained scoreless into the 11th inning before the Bears were able to rally thanks in large part to two errors by the AppleSox.  Daniel Orr stepped to the plate with the chance to drive in the go ahead run following back-to-back singles by Peterson and Taylor Bryant with one out. Orr hit a ground ball sharply to second baseman Evan Cassolato who sailed his throw to the second base bag into left field, allowing Peterson to score.

Following an intentional walk to Chris Iriart to load the bases, Caleb Hamilton hit a ground ball to third base that originally looked to be an inning ending 5-4-3 double play. However, the feed to second base was high taking the defender off the bag despite the relay to first being in time, allowing a run to come home. The Black Bears added an insurance run, with Orr scoring on a single by Serven in the next at bat.

Joe Reta retired the AppleSox in order in the 11th to earn his fourth win of the season, all in relief.
