Matz to Step Down After Season

Press Release.  Longview, WA (August 8, 2014)

The Cowlitz Black Bears and Head Coach Tim Matz announced today that Matz will be stepping down at the end of the 2014 season.

Matz has been head coach of the Black Bears since 2012, and guided the organization to its only playoff appearance in his first season.

“Personally, and on behalf of the Black Bear organization, I want to thank Tim for the last three years,” said owner Tony Bonacci.  “He has had some exciting developments in his personal life, and we are happy for him and his family.”

With three games still remaining in the 2014 season, the Black Bears are 87-90 overall, and 76-83 in WCL play under Matz.  His teams have produced 11 All-Stars and 8 All-League selections.

“The end of a season always comes with mixed feelings, and I view the end of Tim’s time with us the same way,” said Bonacci.   “We have some sadness that it is over, but mostly we celebrate our time together. With the concert tonight and a weekend series to end our season, we’re going to enjoy it.“
