Black Bears Add Four

The Cowlitz Black Bears announced the addition to the 2016 roster of four players: outfielder Tim Jones (So., Northwest Nazarene), catcher Justin Wakem (R-Fr., Western Oregon), and pitchers Dylan Drachler (Jr., Utah) and David Appleby (Fr., Utah).

Jones had 94 at bats in 28 games for 22 hits and 13 RBI in 2015.  He was a three-year varsity starter in for Meridian High School, and was named All 5A Southern Idaho Conference Second Team as a senior, following Honorable Mention recognition as a junior.  

Wakem lettered three years at Beaverton High School, receiving Second Team All-State and First Team All-League accolades as a senior.   He has made three starts for Western Oregon so far in 2016, collecting his first collegiate home run in a 5-2 win against Cal State East Bay.

Drachler made 12 appearances with three starts on the mound for the Utes in 2015.  He had a 4.78 ERA in 23.1 innings pitched with 21 strikeouts while surrendering only six walks.  In 2014, his 22 appearances were second on the Utes’ staff.  He has two appearances in young 2016 season, recording a save against Ball State.

Appleby was All-Marmonte League Honorable Mention as a senior at Agoura High School.  His team was ranked as high as fifth in the country by Maxpreps and was the champion of the prestigious National Classic Tournament.
