Back on track

Longview, Wash.- Cowlitz got back in the win column Tuesday with a 5-0 victory over non-WCL opponent the Portland Lobos.

In the bottom of the first Kenyon Yovan (IN-FR, Oregon) hit a ground ball to third base. Braeden Dunten took Nick Lockwood off the first base bag on the throw allowing Toby Johnson (JR, Arkansas State) to score from third.

In the second Yeager Taylor (FR, UC Riverside) drew a walk. The next batter Jack Reisinger (SO, Seattle University) hit the first home run of the season out of Story Field to left field to make it 3-0.

The Black Bears kept their foot on the gas and scored another run in the seventh. Morgan McCullough (IN-FR, Oregon), in his season debut and first plate appearance, hit an RBI double to score Tim Jones (SO, Northwest Nazarene).

Cowlitz added one more in the eighth. Jones grounded into an RBI fielder's choice to bring home Taylor.

Taylor walked in all four of his plate appearances.

Black Bears starter Jordan Jones (IN-FR, Washington) picked up the win pitching five innings of two hit shutout baseball. Jones struck out three batters. Lobos starter Brian Howell took the loss pitching three innings, giving up three runs on just two hits while striking out three and walking four batters.

Cowlitz is 2-0 against non-WCL teams this season also beating Thurston County the first night of the season 9-3. Tuesday was the second time the Bears have shutout an opponent this season. The first came against Walla Walla.
