Longview, Wash.- Cowlitz beat a Northwest Collegiate League team for the second night in a row by coming back on the Portland Stars 5-4 in the bottom of the ninth.
With one out and the bases loaded Morgan McCullough (IN-FR, Oregon) got a hit to left field which scored Erek Bolton (IN-FR, Ball State) to walk it off.
The Black Bears trailed 4-3 heading into the bottom of the ninth as a result of Jacob Vincent hitting a two-run double in the top of the eighth.
Tim Jones (SO, Northwest Nazarene) tied the game at four with an RBI single to bring home Michael Forgione (JR, University of Portland). Forgione was a pinch runner for Andy Armstrong (IN-FR, Oregon State) after he was hit by a pitch.
It was the Stars who got on the board first in the third. Shane Suyama hit an RBI single to score Jack Krauel. The Stars doubled their lead in the fourth with an RBI sacrifice fly from Brenden Yan.
The Black Bears finally got into the game in the bottom of the inning. Jones picked up his first two RBI's of the game with a single scoring Lorin Archibald (JR, Oklahoma) and Yeager Taylor (FR, UC Riverside). Bolton scored his first run of the game as Justin Wakem (FR, Western Oregon) reached on a fielder's choice causing two errors as well.
The Stars committed six errors overall on the night.
Austin Dick (SO, Nevada) pitched the ninth inning and picked up the win. Once again Dick did not allow a run and gave up just one hit. Ethan Fulsher blew a six out save and took the loss giving up the final two runs on three hits while striking out one batter, walking one and hitting one.
The Black Bears get back to West Coast League play Thursday against the Wenatchee AppleSox at 6:35. Riley Ohl (IN-FR, RHP Nevada) gets the start in game one against Grady Miller (IN-FR, University of Portland).
