Black Bears Drop League Opener to Knights
In front of 817 fans at their league opener, the Cowlitz Black Bears lost to the Corvallis Knights, 5-2, at Story Field.
The Black Bears scored two runs in the second. One run came from Ryan Sheeks, who crossed home plate on a double from Jason Mahood. Mahood scored three batters later, when Jamison Rowe hit a single.
The Black Bears took their lead into the top of the sixth, when Corvallis’s Corey Davis hit a double that allowed Matt Boyd to score and tie the game. The Knights pulled ahead in the next inning and added two more runs to their lead in the eighth.
Drew Pettit was named the losing pitcher while Corvalls’s Kyle Kraus earned the win and John Pecoraro got the save.
The Black Bears are now 1-1-1 overall, 0-1 in the West Coast League. The Knights improve to 2-4. The teams will meet again tomorrow night at 6:35 p.m. at Longview’s Story Field. Saturday night’s promotions include Magic 94.5 Kids Dash for Cash, where youngsters dash for $1,000, and Boy Scouts Night.
