Knights sweep Bears

Longview, Wash.- Corvallis (3-0) showed why they are the defending West Coast League champions Sunday by finishing off a sweep of Cowlitz (0-3) with a 7-2 win.

The Knights scored all seven of their runs in the first inning sending 12 batters to the plate and never looked back. They drew five walks and were hit twice by pitches.

The Black Bears got on the board in the fourth. Nyles Nygaard (SR Western Oregon) reached on an error by the third baseman. The next batter Jace McKinney (JR Mt Hood College) drove the ball to center field where it was misplayed by the Knight defender allowing Nygaard to score. Cowlitz narrowed the gap to five in the eighth. Ryan Kim (SO University of Portland) hit an RBI single which scored Evan Williams (IN-FR Oregon). It was Kim's first RBI of the season.

Cowlitz starter CJ Blowers (JR Edmonds College) had a rough outing only lasting two-thirds of an inning giving up six runs on no hits walking four Knights and hitting two batters. Joey Morris (SO University of Portland) made his season debut in relief. He gave up one run in 2.1 innings on three hits with one strikeout. Two more pitchers made their season debuts. Tyson Cronin (JR Pierce College) lasted the longest hurling three innings without giving up a run on two hits while striking out four batters.
