Black Bears

Classic in Corvallis

Corvallis, Ore.- For the second straight game Cowlitz (6-8) and Corvallis (9-5) traded blows but once again the Black Bears were too much for the Knights and won game two 6-5 to take the series.

Trailing 3-2 with two outs in the top of the seventh, Cowlitz loaded the bases on three walks. Mark Pearson (JR Abilene Christian) then cleared the bases with a double to give Cowlitz the lead back for the third time 5-3. Two batters later Marco Valenzuela (SO Nevada) drove in the sixth Cowlitz run with what turned out to be an important RBI single.

Christian Cosby (JR Chapman) came out in the ninth to try and earn his first save of the season. While Corvallis did score twice to narrow the gap to one Cosby struck out the final Knight batter to nail down the win.

The Black Bears first reliever KJ Strickland (JR Linn-Benton College) earned the win. It was his first decision of the season. Strickland pitched one inning giving up one run on two hits which gave Corvallis their only lead but the Cowlitz offense picked him up.

Trevor Conn (R-SR Dallas Baptist) made his season debut pitching the seventh and eighth innings. Conn gave up just one hit and added a strikeout.
