Falcons fly high

Kelowna, B.C.- Kelowna scored seven runs in the third inning of game one Monday and hung on the rest of the way for an 8-2 win.

   The Falcons (13-9) brought ten batters to the plate to take the commanding lead. The big play was a bases clearing double into the left corner which made it 6-0.

   The Black Bears (9-10) answered with one run each in the sixth and eighth. Evan Williams (IN-FR Oregon) led off the sixth with a double. Jace McKinney (JR University of Portland) drove him in with two outs on an RBI infield single which was also bobbled by the Kelowna starting pitcher. Devlin Granberg (SR Dallas Baptist) led off the eighth with a double as well. After being moved to third on a ground out Mark Pearson (JR Abilene Christian) brought home the second Cowlitz run with an RBI ground out.

   Starter Trevor Conn (R-SR Dallas Baptist) took the loss in his first start. It was Conn's first decision of the season. Conn pitched three innings and gave up seven runs, five of which were earned, on three hits with two strikeouts and four walks.

   Nathan Bonck (SO Seattle University) pitched the next two innings. Bonck gave up the eighth Kelowna run on one hit with five strikeouts and four walks. Christian Cosby (JR Chapman) pitched the sixth. Cosby allowed only one hit and added a free pass. Lastly CJ Blowers (JR Edmonds College) pitched the final two innings. Blowers also one gave up one hit and retired three Falcons on strikes.

   The Black Bears season high three game winning streak is over and they failed to move above .500 for the first time this season.

   David Wallum (RHP JR Western Oregon) will try and even the series Tuesday on the mound against Cal Hehnke (RHP JR Nebraska-Omaha). First pitch will again be at 6:35 PM.
