In between taking the tarp on and off the field for rain delays, the Cowlitz Black Bears lost to the Bellingham Bells, 5-4.
The Bells scored first in the second inning, when third baseman Ben Ruff hit a home run to the home team’s bull pen.
The Black Bears had answer for that in the fifth inning though. After Garrison McLagan was batted in by Ryan Sheeks, Jason Mahood sent the ball flying toward the Bob’s Sporting Goods Party Deck and left field for a 3-run home run.
The Bells threatened to score again in the sixth when Black Bears pitcher Joey Pulitano allowed the Bells to load the bases. But he got out of the inning with no runs scored.
A grand slam from the Bells’ Brady Locker put the Bells ahead 5-4 in the eighth. The Black Bears couldn’t get another run.
The winning pitcher was Bells’ Jimmy Reed. Ben Ruff got the save and Chris Dennis got the lose for the Black Bears.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow night at 6:35 p.m. at Story Field. It is Family Night at the field, where you can get four general admission tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas for $28. It’s also College Night. If you wear a college T-shirt or sweatshirt, you can get $2 off a general admission ticket.
