Wenatchee, Wash.- Cowlitz hit a season high three home runs in game one against Wenatchee to beat the AppleSox 7-2.
Nyles Nygaard (SR Western Oregon) kicked off the bomb fest with a solo shot in the first inning to left field. It was Nygaard's second home run of the season.
With the Black Bears up 3-0 in the seventh it was Devlin Granberg's (SR Dallas Baptist) turn. Granberg hit a two run blast to center field which put the Black Bears up by five. It was Granberg's team leading fifth homer.
Lastly Marco Valenzuela (SO Nevada) hit another solo shot to left field in the eighth to make it 6-2. It was Valenzuela's first homer of the season.
Meanwhile Trevor Conn (R-SR Dallas Baptist) made his best start of the season to limit the AppleSox offensively. Conn picked up his first win to improve his record to 1-2. The DBU righty lasted seven innings giving up both runs on eight hits with a single game best for him four strikeouts and only allowed one walk. Cobi Johnson (SR Northwest Nazarene) returned to the mound for Cowlitz and pitched the final two innings. Johnson allowed only one hit with two strikeouts.
Preston Jones (SO Oregon State) doubled the Black Bears lead in the fifth with a single. In the seventh before the Granberg home run Ryan Kim (SO University of Portland) led off the inning with a triple. Andy Armstrong (SO Oregon State) then made it 3-0 with an RBI single. Austin Ingraham (SR TCU) scored the final Cowlitz run in the eighth on another Armstrong single.
Wenatchee scored their two runs in the seventh to trim the lead to 5-2 with a home run of their own.
The Black Bears are on their second three game winning streak of the season. They will try and earn their longest streak Wednesday at 7:05 PM. Christian Cosby (RHP JR Chapman) starts against Hunter Boyd (RHP JR College of Idaho).
