Longview, Wash.- Victoria cruised to a 9-2 game two victory Saturday over Cowitz to win the series.
For the second game in a row the HarbourCats (13-8, 27-21) scored two runs in the first inning. Victoria then essentially put the game away in the fourth scoring five runs on five hits while sending all nine batters to the plate to make it 7-0. One more run came across in the fifth on an RBI sacrifice fly.
Meanwhile the Victoria starter had a perfect game going against Cowlitz (12-8, 23-24) into the fifth. Mark Pearson (JR Abilene Christian) spoiled it with a one out single up the middle. The next batter Derek Scott (JR Abilene Christian) brought him home with an RBI double.
Kona Quiggle (SO Grand Canyon) led off the seventh with a double. Scott drove in his second run of the game with a sac fly to make it 8-2. The HarbourCats answered with an RBI triple in the ninth.
Davis Baillie (R-SO Washington State) became the fifth Cowlitz pitcher in a row to lose their start. Baillie dropped his record to 3-2 pitching 3.2 innings giving up seven runs on eight hits while striking out just one batter with two walks. KJ Strickland (JR College of Idaho) lasted the next 4.2 innings. Strickland gave up two runs on four hits with two strikeouts and one free pass. Closer Kragen Kechely (SO Dallas Baptist) pitched the final .2 innings and gave up one hit with one strikeout.
The Black Bears have now lost five in a row after winning five straight.
Elsewhere Bend beat Gresham and Yakima Valley beat Port Angeles while Corvallis was idle. Cowlitz dropped out of first place in the South Division and is now a half game behind Corvallis with one game in hand. The Black Bears also fell from second place in the overall standings. Yakima Valley is now second and Cowlitz is tied for third with Bend, a half game back of the Pippins.
