Black Bears

Two Utes Join Cowlitz in 2018

BLACK BEARS ADD TWO UNIVERSITY OF UTAH PLAYERS TO STRENGTHEN 2018 ROSTER. PRESS RELEASE:  Longview-Kelso, Washington, Tuesday, April 3rd, 2018: Two highly-touted Utah freshman players have signed to pitch and to play outfield for the Cowlitz Black Bears, as the team inches closer to finalizing the 2018 roster.

Riley Pierce (LHP), a 6’ 2” 185 pound Salem, Utah native, was a two way star at Salem Hills High School.  He is a strong lefty who commands both sides of the plate. Pierce will run his fastball in upper 80’s and real good change-up and breaking ball behind it. Utah sees Riley fighting for a starting spot for them this season but they like the versatility he adds to their rotation depth as well. “We are excited to have another good arm in our rotation this summer who can get both sides of the plate out,” GM Jim Appleby said.

The Black Bears have also signed Utah outfielder Isaac Deveaux.  Deveaux, a 6’1” 195 pound Montreal, Quaebec, Canada native. He was a member of the Canada Junior Team and played in the 2015 WBSC U18 World Baseball Cup in Osaka, Japan. Isaac is really good defender in the outfield who will cover a lot of real estate for us and be able to stop runners from taking an extra 90 feet. “But after speaking with Coach Brossman about him defensively, he said his bat we are gonna really like as well,” Coach Grady Tweit said.

Please welcome with us Riley and Isaac to your 2018 Cowlitz Black Bears this summer.
