LONGVIEW, Wash.- Kelowna evened the series with Cowlitz Saturday in a topsy-turvy affair winning 8-6 in 12 innings.
After a single and a hit by pitch in the top of the 12th back-to-back fielder's choices plated two runs for the Falcons. Meanwhile the Black Bears were unable to get a base runner aboard in extra innings.
Cowlitz (3-5) has already played two 12 inning games this season as they dropped the series finale at Bend 8-7 back on June 3rd.
For the second game in a row the Black Bears started strong. Austin Bell (R-JR Dallas Baptist) opened the scoring with an RBI double in the first. Dalton Mitchell (R-SR Alabama A&M) led off the second with a double and eventually scored on an RBI single up the middle from Kyle Froemke (IN-FR Oregon).
Kelowna (2-3) answered with an RBI sacrifice fly in the third. The Falcons then tied the game at two with another RBI sac fly in the sixth.
Cowlitz answered right away loading the bases on three consecutive walks. Dutton Elske (JR University of Portland) trotted home on a balk by the Kelowna pitcher.
But the Falcons responded in the seventh with an RBI single.
A big eighth inning put Kelowna on the brink of evening the series. They sent nine batters to the plate and scored three times on a two run single and an error by the left fielder to make it 6-3.
But Bell made sure to give his team a chance by driving out his second home run in as many games to right field which tied the game at six.
The game was tied three times and their was one lead change. The Black Bears came up short despite Kelowna's pitchers walking 11 Cowlitz batters and hitting a pair.
