PORT ANGELES, Wash.- The Black Bears earned their first series sweep of the season Wednesday beating Port Angeles in another close game 7-5.

     With the game tied 4-4 in the top of the sixth Cowlitz scored three runs to take the lead for good. Jonathan Hodo (JR Benedictine) led off with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Hodo then came all the way home stealing third and scoring on the errant throw from the catcher. Liam Ballance (SR Vancouver Island University) and Jimmy McLaughlin (JR Benedictine) both drew full count walks. Andres Sosa (JR San Jacinto College) broke the game open with a two run double.

     The Lefties got one run back in the eighth. But Cody Turner (SO Chapman) shut down Port Angeles with the tying runs aboard to earn his first save of the season.

     Joey Morris (R-SO University of Portland) turned in another good long relief appearance to win his first game of the season. Morris lasted four innings giving up only one run on three hits with a pair of strikeouts.

     Cowlitz (7-5) opened the scoring in the second. Dutton Elske (JR University of Portland) hit his first home run of the season to left field. Ballance hit an RBI single to double the lead.

     The Black Bears doubled their lead again in the third. Elske picked up his second and third runs batted in with a single.

     Port Angeles (6-6) got into the game with two runs in the bottom of the inning. A pair of RBI singles cut the lead to 4-2. The Lefties tied the game in the fourth with a two run homer to left field.

     The Bears are on their longest winning streak of the season at four games. Cowlitz is now 8-1 all-time against Port Angeles.

     Cowlitz took games one and two both by one run 4-3 and 6-5.

     The Bears play a non-league game Thursday night against the Highline Bears back at Story Field before heading to Corvallis for a weekend series. Time of first pitch is 6:35 PM.
