Black Bears Lose First Game of Series to AppleSox

            In their first game against the defending WCL champions, the Cowltiz Black Bears lost to the Wenatchee AppleSox, 9-2, in Wenatchee on Monday night.

            The Black Bears scored first in the second inning, when Ethan Leiter rounded the bases on a double from Garrison McLagan. The Black Bears also earned a run in the sixth, when Mike Turay scored on a pitcher error. But they were unable to make anything out of the rest of their 10 hits. The Black Bears also left nine runners on base over seven innings. The AppleSox were able to score in five consecutive innings during the game.

            The losing pitcher for the Black Bears was Jeff Gold, who pitched 4 2/3 innings.

            The Black Bear will face the AppleSox again Tuesday and Wednesday night in Wenatchee at 7:05 p.m. The next Black Bears home game is Friday, June 25 at 6:35 p.m. when they start a 3-game series against the Bend Elks. Friday night will be Firefighters Night and the Spitball Gang will be on hand to entertain fans.
