YAKIMA, Wash.- Cowlitz still couldn't get a win in league play Tuesday losing to Yakima Valley 11-3.

     The Black Bears have now lost seven in a row which ties a franchise record. The 11 runs against was the most Cowlitz has given up this season.

     The Pippins led the entire game after scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. An RBI triple to right center field and an RBI ground out opened the scoring for Yakima Valley.

     One more came across the in the second after an error on the short stop and an RBI double.

     The Black Bears made things very interesting in the fourth. Tanner Parker (JR Middle Tennessee State) and Liam Ballance (SR Vancouver Island University) hit back-to-back two out RBI singles to cut the lead to 3-2. Parker picked up his first RBI in his first start of the season.

     But a big sixth inning for the Pippins put the game out of reach. They sent eight batters to the plate and scored four times on five hits to take a commanding 7-2 lead.

     Cowlitz (7-12) got their final run in the seventh. With Mason De La Cruz (SO Washington State) at first Ryan Kim (JR University of Portland) drove the ball to left center. The center fielder fell down allowing De La Cruz to score on the error.

     Yakima Valley (9-10) got the run back in the bottom of the inning after a balk put a runner at second and an RBI single to make it 8-3. Three more runs scored in the eighth on a two run double and another RBI single.

     Starter Matt Gannon (JR Northwestern) took the loss dropping his record to 0-2. Gannon gave up three runs, two earned, in 3.1 innings on three hits with two strikeouts.

     The Pippins ended their three game losing streak with the victory.
