Black Bears

Pickles take series

PORTLAND, Ore.- For the fourth consecutive game Cowlitz gave up double digits and Portland officially clinched the first half South Division title with a 10-2 victory.

A three run homer to left field in the bottom of the third inning was all the Pickles offense needed.

But they brought five more runs home in the bottom of the fifth to pull away all with two outs.

The Black Bears got into the game in the top of the sixth. Blake Burton (JR Washington) drove home Kyle Sandstrom (JR Sacramento State) with an RBI ground out.

The Pickles answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. An RBI fielder's choice and an RBI ground out made it 10-1.

Cowlitz scored once more in the ninth. Burton doubled to lead off the inning. Two batters later Andres Sosa (JR San Jacinto College) brought the run to the plate with an RBI fielder's choice.

Starter Seth Rayburn (R-SR Tennessee-Martin) took the loss dropping his record to 1-2. Rayburn pitched 4.2 innings and gave up five runs on six hits with three strikeouts.

Cody Turner (SO Chapman) was first out of the bullpen. He saw three batters and didn't retire any of them giving up three runs on two hits and a walk. Christian Peters (JR University of Portland) then lasted 1.1 innings. Peters gave up the final two runs on three hits.

Jordan Martinson (LHP SR Dallas Baptist) pitches the final game of the first half of the season tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
