WALLA WALLA, Wash.- Walla Walla got the bats going again in the rubber match Monday and won the series with an 11-3 victory.

     The Sweets rattled off eight straight runs after the game was tied at three in the fourth inning. A two run homer to left field end up as the winning hit in the bottom of the inning.

     Three more came across in the fifth. An RBI double and two RBI sacrifice flies to right field and left field increased the lead to 8-3.

     Another RBI double and an RBI single in the seventh gave Walla Walla a seven run cushion. Finally a solo shot to left field in the eighth finished off Cowlitz.

     Starter Jordan Martinson (SR Dallas Baptist) took the loss which dropped his record to 0-3. Martinson lasted 3.2 innings and gave up five runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and one hit batter.

     The game started well for the Black Bears. Dalton Mitchell (R-SR Alabama A&M) led off the second inning reaching on a fielding error by the short stop. After a passed ball moved him into scoring position an RBI double by Dutton Elske (JR University of Portland) opened the scoring.

     Ryan Kim (JR University of Portland) then led off the third with a single. Two passed balls moved him to third and brought him home to double the lead.

     Walla Walla took their first lead in the bottom of the inning. An RBI single and two RBI doubles gave the Sweets a 3-2 advantage.

     But Jonathan Hodo (JR Benedictine) fought back in the fourth. Hodo hit his first home run of the season over the 15 foot high scoreboard in left field to tie the game at three.

     The Black Bears (5-7, 15-24) have dropped their last three rubber matches. They also gave up six doubles which was a season high. The Sweets (7-5, 22-17) have won three of their first four second half series.

     Blake Burton (JR Washington) finished the night 3-for-3 with a walk and was a home run shy of the cycle getting a triple, double and single in that order.

     Cowlitz turns the page Tuesday as they continue their only six game road trip of the season at Wenatchee. Time of first pitch against the AppleSox is at 7:05 PM.
