The Black Bears and Raptors will play in the Columbia River Cup Series this weekend in Ridgefield. It is their first regular season matchup of the year. Ridgefield won the pre-season tune up game 10-6 on June 1st.

Last year, both teams won their home series (2-1) with Ridgefield taking home the trophy in 7 games. Cowlitz looks to bring the momentum they’ve gained after a strong series against Walla Walla with them as they face off against their southern rival.

The Black Bears offense scored the most runs of the season in game 1 against Walla Walla scoring 10 runs on 15 hits and they had 25 baserunners in the game. Carter Gaston tossed 5 scoreless innings, giving up just 3 hits. The bullpen took over right where Gaston left off. Jack Meek (California State Fullerton) made his first appearance for the Black Bears and threw 2 scoreless frames. Jase Schueller and Riley Roskopf put up zeros in the 8th and 9th for the second shutout of the season for Cowlitz.

The Bears offense stayed hot in game 2 when they scored 5 runs in the first frame. Backed by solid pitching once again, Cowlitz took game 2 and the series, winning 7-2. Game 3 is Thursday night as the Black Bears look for their first sweep of the year.
