The Cowlitz Black Bears are rolling toward the end of the 2024 regular season. They begin their final home series of the year this Tuesday, July 30, against the Portland Pickles.
Over the weekend, the Black Bears dropped two of three games to the Ridgefield Raptor. The Black Bears were trailing 5-0 on Friday heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, but three runs in the seventh made it a 5-3 game and three more lifted the Black Bears to a 6-5 win. Ridgefield took games two and three by scores of 12-2 and 10-6. Cowlitz is 13-11 this season in Longview, the Black Bears must win at least two of three games to secure a winning record at David Story Field in 2024.
The Pickles clinched their 2024 WCL South Playoff Spot after finishing second in the division with a 17-8 record. Portland leads the season series 2-1. The teams faced each other in Portland back in mid-June. Cowlitz won the 2023 series 4-2. Portland took two of three games at David Story Field last season, but the Black Bears rebounded by sweeping the Pickles at Walker Stadium in Portland last year amid a late-season 10-game winning streak.
The Black Bears want to thank our fantastic fans for their support this past season. As a gesture of gratitude to the best fans in the WCL, EVERY game this series against the Pickles will have $3 general admission tickets, hot dogs, nachos, domestic canned beer, and bottled soda. Tuesday’s game we’ll be giving out team posters to the first 400 fans in attendance! Wednesday night, the first 400 fans into the ballpark will get some cool sunglasses courtesy of Flyways. On Thursday, August 1st we wrap up with our gran Fan Appreciation celebration. Fans will get the opportunity to win prizes EVERY inning thanks to a multitude of our community partners including, Bob’s Sporting Goods, Dick Hannah Toyota, Fibre FCU, Safeway, and so much more!
