[Longview, WA] – The Cowlitz Black Bears are thrilled to announce the return of Head Coach Kelly Stinnett! Coach Stinnett was an integral part of leading the 2023 Black Bears to a franchise best 33 wins en route to the team’s first playoff appearance since 2012. Under his leadership, the 2023 squad rose to new heights as the team set new franchise records in series wins, consecutive wins, series sweeps, and stolen bases. One of the hottest teams last summer, the Black Bears won 21 of their last 28 games. The 2023 Black Bears will go down as one of the best team’s in franchise history; and a lot of that success is a testament to the leadership, dedication, and ability to inspire that Coach Stinnett brings to the ballpark every day. Coach Stinnett has ushered in a new culture and elevated the standard for excellence for players coming Cowlitz in 2024.

Coach Stinnett brings a wealth of knowledge to Cowlitz having played for 8 different Major League Baseball teams spanning over 14 years. Like many current managers in Major League Baseball, Stinnett spent his career as a catcher and uses that experience as a starting place to instruct and manage every facet of the game, from the pitching staff to the hitters. Coach Stinnett is currently the head baseball coach for the Park University Buccaneers in Gilbert, Arizona.

As the 2024 season approaches, the entire Black Bears organization is gearing up for another exhilarating season, filled with anticipation, dedication, and the pursuit of excellence. “I’m excited to get back to Longview and take the Black Bears to the next level. The goal is to make the championship series and bring a championship home to Cowlitz” said the Black Bears skipper when asked about his return this summer.
