The Black Bears fell 5-1 to the Bend Elks on Friday night, victims of
Black Bears' starter Reza Aleaziz held the Elks at bay through five and two-thirds innings, scattering three hits and striking out four. However, five unearned runs in the sixth gave the Elks all the cushion they woud need on a night dominated by pitchers on both squads.
Kohl Hostert releived Aleaziz for the fifth unearned run, and worked out of a jam in the seventh, stranding three Elks without allowing any runs.
The Black Bears put a run on the board in the bottom of the seventh on a Daniel Orr double, a fly ball by Jonathan Serven to move him to third and a Seaver Whalen sacrifice fly to make the score 5-1.
Jake Menzhuber took over on the mound for the Black Bears in the eighth, and confounded the Elks for his two innings, allowing no hit and striking out two.
Joey Greco led the Black Bears with two hits, including a double. Worden and Orr added doubles, and Caleb Hamilton and Austin Baker contributed singles.
The Black Bears look to take the Series against the Elks on Saturday night at Story Field, with first pitch at 6:35. Bob Crisman's Gallery of Diamaonds p resents the 5th Annual Ladies Diamond Dig.
