Bears Fall in Season Finale

The Black Bears’ season final Sunday night was full of prizes for fans and goodbyes to our team as the Bears left the field for the summer on a 5-1 loss to the Bellingham Bells.

The Bells put their first run on the board in the top of the fourth off of a fielder’s choice to lead the Bears 1-0. Starting pitcher Kohl Hostert pitched four innings allowing four hits and one run while striking out three before being replaced by Connor Cuse.

One more run for the Bells in the top of the fifth off of a sacrifice fly to right field gave the Bells the 2-0 lead. Cuse pitched one inning allowing one hit and one run before Scott Serigstad took the mound.

Serigstad pitched one inning allowing only one hit.

Michael Sullivan made his 2014 Black Bears debut Sunday night after spending the summer as an intern. Sullivan pitched the seventh inning, allowing one hit and one run while striking out one. The Bells had the 3-0 lead heading into the eighth.

Jake Menzhuber took the mound for two-thirds innings. The Bells scored two runs in the top of the eighth for the 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth.

With Kort Peterson on second with double, Seaver Whalen singled to left field to drive home the Bears’ only run of the night.

Henry Omana closed the game for the Bears pitching one and one-third innings allowing only two hits.

Both Whalen and Peterson went two for four at the plate.
