5 Black Bears Named To All-WCL Teams

West Coast League President Donnie Marbut released the 2016 All-WCL Teams this morning.  Five Black Bears were among those listed.  Utility player Kenyon Yovan and right-handed pitcher Austin Dick were named to the 1st Team All-WCL squad.

Yovan dazzled all year in dual roles, performing equally well on the mound as well as at the plate.  In 31 innings pitched, he had 32 strikeouts and ended the year with a 2.61 ERA.  At the plate, Yovan had 33 hits for 20 RBI and 2 homeruns.  He ended the year with a .268 batting average.  The incoming freshman will call The University of Oregon home this upcoming season.

Austin Dick quickly established himself as the closer for the Black Bears this season.  The right-handed pitcher with a sidearm delivery kept the opposition on its heels all year.  In 20 games he pitched 22 innings for 10 saves and ended the year with an astounding 0.78 ERA.  The Junior returns to Nevada-Reno for 2017.

Weston Hatten was named to the 2nd team All WCL Team.  Hatten played 48 games in right field for the Black Bears in 2016.  In 169 at bats, Hatten collected 50 hits for 27 RBI and had 3 homeruns this year.  He ended the year with a .296 batting average.  The Junior moves on to Nevada-Reno, after previously playing at Washington State University.

Among those listed on the Honorable Mention  All-WCL Team are infielder Yeager Taylor from UC Riverside and pitcher Kevin Baker from the University of Portland.

Taylor played the corners this year, playing 45 games at either first or third base.  In 153 at bats, he had 17 RBI and 1 homerun.  He ended the year with a .261 batting average.  Taylor returns to UC Riverside for his Sophomore season.

Baker started 9 games as a right-handed pitcher.  His 47.2 innings of work brought 3 wins and a 3.77 ERA.  Baker returns to the University of Portland for his Junior season.
