Black Bears

New year same result in extras

KELOWNA, B.C.- For the second year in a row Kelowna walked off a game against Cowlitz at Elks Stadium winning game two this time 4-3 in ten innings.

Kelowna led off the bottom of the tenth with a walk and a single. After a 6-4 fielder's choice put runners at the corners a wild pitch moved the runner at first into scoring position. Then Taylor Wright came up and hit a deep fly ball to right field which landed just in front of the wall to walk it off.

This wasn't the first time Wright has had a big at bat against Cowlitz. Last year in game three at Elks Stadium Wright hit a two run homer to dead center field in the bottom of the 11th to extend the game. Kelowna ended up walking it off in the 14th on an RBI double.

Marty Maves (SR Benedictine) took the loss dropping his record to 2-1. Maves pitched two innings and was responsible for the winning run.

Kelowna opened the scoring in the first bringing in two runs with an RBI double and an RBI single.

Cowlitz answered in the top of the second. A two out fielding error by the first baseman opened the door for the Black Bears. Austin Bell (R-JR Dallas Baptist) hit an RBI single and Ryan Kim (JR University of Portland) hit an RBI double to tie the game at two.

The Black Bears took their only lead in the fifth. Blake Burton (JR Washington) hit an RBI double as well to make it 3-2.

But the Falcons tied the game in the sixth. After a passed ball put two runners in scoring position an RBI sacrifice fly tied the game for the second time.

Cowlitz (3-2, 13-19) has now lost eight straight games at Elks Stadium and dropped to 2-3 in extra innings games. Kelowna (4-1, 19-13) has won both extra innings games against the Black Bears this season.

Jordan Martinson (LHP SR Dallas Baptist) tries to salvage a game against Kelowna Wednesday at 6:35 PM.
