The Black Bears went North for their first road trip of the 2023 West Coast League season. The Bears and Bells split the first two games of the series in Bellingham. In game 1, the Bears scored four runs on ten hits in their first comeback win of the season that dealt the Bells their first loss this year.
The Bears return home for their second homestand this season starting Friday, June 9. The three game set will be against coach Kelly Stinnett’s former ballclub, the Edmonton Riverhawks.
The Riverhawks finished their inaugural season last year with an identical record as Cowlitz, going 25-28. Edmonton started off their 2023 season being swept by Bellingham. They traveled to Ridgefield for their second series to face the Raptors. After two games, the Riverhawks fell to 0-5 to start the year.
The Riverhawks and Black Bears played each other in three games last year. After a dominant 11-1 win for Cowlitz in game 1, Edmonton won the next two to take the series 2-1. They’ll play six games this season, three at home and three North of the border.
