The Black Bears returned home for a weekend series against the Edmonton Riverhawks. After the rainout on Friday, the Bears and Hawks split the double header on Saturday. Ian Riley (Dallas Baptist) hit the Black Bears first homerun this season in game 2. Edmonton would take the series finale and two of three against Cowlitz.
The Black Bears head on their second road trip of the season and will play in Walla Walla Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Walla Walla is 2-7 a little over a week into the season. Their first win was Friday at home against Ridgefield. They went on to win the series (2-1).
The Sweets finished their season last year going 23-31. These two teams played one another in just one series last year. The Black Bears won the series (2-1). In the Bears’ wins, they scored a combined 23 runs against the Sweets. After struggling to score runs in games 2 & 3 against Edmonton, Cowlitz will look to bring another big offensive performance against Walla Walla. The addition of Ian Riley will help bring some pop into the line-up for the Black Bears as they head East. They’ll play six games this season, three on the road and three at home in late June.
